If you're planning to use the Dartford Crossing this month, it’s important to be aware of scheduled overnight closures and ongoing maintenance on the QEII Bridge and Dartford Tunnels. National Highways has released updated details for April, including a full overnight bridge closure later this month.
Spring marks the return of planned maintenance work on the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge, with painting continuing through to October. Most work will not affect traffic, thanks to a temporary walkway installed in 2024 to allow workers safe access to key bridge sections.
However, occasional overnight lane closures will still be needed to reach specific areas. During these periods, one lane will remain open to keep traffic moving.
The next full closure of the QEII Bridge is scheduled for:
Saturday 26 April, 10pm – Sunday 27 April, 5am
This closure is for routine safety inspections and essential maintenance.
Several tunnel closures are also scheduled this month, affecting both eastbound and westbound travel. Here’s what to expect:
Previous closures from earlier in the month also included work on both the west and east tunnels between 11–17 April.
