AutoChain
For MOT centres

Keep your MOT bays booked, year after year

An MOT centre runs on repeat business. AutoChain tracks every vehicle's MOT due date from DVSA records, sends the reminders for you and shows the MOT history the moment you enter a registration. Run a health check alongside the MOT and the advisories become work the customer can approve.

What gets in the way

  • Reminders depend on someone finding the time

Going through a list of due dates every week is the first job to drop when the bays are busy, and every missed reminder is an MOT that may go elsewhere.

  • Expired MOTs nobody follows up

When a customer lets the date pass without booking, there is rarely anyone free to chase them, and the car drops off your books.

  • Advisories mentioned and then forgotten

The tester spots worn pads or a perished tyre, it is mentioned at the counter, and the customer drives off without booking the work.

  • The phone rings all day for bookings

Every MOT booked by phone takes someone away from the desk or the bay, and calls after closing time go unanswered.

FAQ

Questions, answered

Does AutoChain record MOT test results?

No. AutoChain does not connect to the MOT testing service, so you record tests the way you do now. AutoChain handles the bookings, reminders, health checks and invoices around the test, and shows each vehicle's DVSA MOT history.

Where do the MOT due dates come from?

From DVSA records. AutoChain keeps each vehicle's MOT due date up to date, so nobody has to type it in or check it by hand.

How far ahead are MOT reminders sent?

You choose the lead time, anywhere from 1 to 365 days before the due date, and whether reminders go by email or SMS.

Can I follow up advisories from a previous visit?

Yes. Send an advisory reminder from the customer record whenever you choose. These reminders are sent manually, so you decide who gets one and when.

Can MOT income go to its own nominal code in my accounts?

Yes, with Xero or Sage Accounting connected. Labour, parts, tyres, consumables and MOT each post to the nominal code you choose.
